The Remote Automatic Weather Stations (RAWS) is system is a network of automated weather stations run by the U.S. Forest Service (USFS) and Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and monitored by the National Interagency Fire Center (NIFC), mainly to observe potential wildfire conditions. Jack County Fire Owns and operates a Portable RAWS Station in Jacksboro.
Following the 1998 fire season, Texas A&M Forest Service established the Predictive Services Department as a permanently staffed unit to provide short and long-term forecasts and analysis. The program produces information and products that are used at the national, state and local level by firefighters, elected officials and public administrators.
The National Interagency Coordination Center is the focal point for overseeing all interagency coordination activities throughout the United States.
